OSU President, Dr Michael Drake, to Retire

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--After six years at the helm, Dr. Michael Drake, President of The Ohio State University, plans to retire.

Drake tells The Columbus Dispatch that he will stay on through at least the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Drake says he is proud of the university's accomplishments over his time leading the school.

Dr. Drake has been the school's President since 2014, after serving as president of the University of California-Irvine.

While the university has seen record graduation and retention rates since 2014, the university is also dealing with lawsuits involving former Athletics Physician, Dr. Richard Strauss, with the university determining Strauss sexually assaulted hundreds of student-athletes over decades.

Dr. Drake also dealt with the situation involving former Ohio State Marching Band Director Jon Waters, who was fired for not addressing a "sexualized culture" in the band.

A search committee will be formed to find Dr. Drake's replacement.
