Tiny volcano shoots pebbles 9 miles into sky

The international airport in Manila was forced to shut down Sunday and tens of thousands of people evacuated after a small volcano near the Philippine capital erupted, spewing out a huge plume of ash and steam. Taal Volcano shot steam, ash and pebbles six to nine miles into the sky, with authorities having recorded a swarm of earthquake before it exploded. Taal, which is one of the world’s smallest volcanoes, is among two dozen active volcanoes in the Philippines.
