COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The spike in gun crimes to start 2020 prompted Columbus Police Chief Thomas Quinlan to address the situation on Tuesday.
Quinlan held a press conference, and noted the weekend incident where a three-year-old was hit by gunfire, and the incident on Monday near the Driving Park Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
Quinlan asks witnesses of violent crimes to come forward, adding that in Monday's incident, where three people were shot and one of them died, there were about 20 people there at the time, but no one has come forward as a witness to help solve it.
Records indicate 42% of gun violence victims in Columbus are age 21 and younger. Incidents of felonious assaults are also up sharply to start 2020 compared to last year.
