COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Police say a 12-year-old girl was shot and killed on Wednesday, when a gun fired in a neighboring apartment shot into her unit.
Officers responded to the scene along Brooke Boulevard, on the city's east side, around 9:00PM, where Lidia Ghide was found with a gunshot wound. She was taken to Mt. Carmel East Hospital in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead.
Ghide's neighbor, 42-year-old Eric Carpenter, was arrested and charged with reckless homicide. Police say he fired the rifle, with the bullet traveling into the adjacent apartment.
Homicide detectives are investigating.
