Columbus police shoot, kill stabbing suspect in Hilltop

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Columbus police officers shot and killed a suspect Tuesday night after they say he threatened them with a large knife.

It began with a call to the 500 block of Josephine Ave. on a report of a stabbing.  When officers arrived, they found a woman with a cut to her hand and a man with a deep cut to his neck.

The victims told police they got into a fight with the suspect after he broke a window to one of their cars and took the keys.

The suspect then ran off and the woman who had been cut gave officers some areas where the suspect might have gone.

Police located the man in the 400 block of S. Powell Ave. in the Hilltop neighborhood.

Around 11:30 p.m., they say, he came out of a house with a large knife and confronted officers.  That's when police fired at the suspect.

The man, who isn't being identified until his family is notified, was taken to the hospital where he later died.
