COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The new IKEA store in the Polaris area will open on Wednesday, June 7th.
Company officials made that announcement on Wednesday. It will be the 2nd store for the company in Ohio, and 44th in the US. As of Wednesday, the next closest stores are in West Chester, Pittsburgh, PA, and Canton, MI.
“We are thrilled by the excellent construction progress made to date, and believe we can complete the remaining milestones and interior build-up by early-June. Besides furnishing our store, we also are focused on continuing recruitment and training of all the coworkers joining the IKEA family,” noted David Garcia, store manager of the future IKEA Columbus.
Devoted fans can begin lining up for the store's opening on Monday, June 5th.
The store will feature a supervised children's play area and a restaurant. The building also has one of Ohio's largest rooftop solar arrays.
The facility was built on the site of the former Polaris Amphitheater.
IKEA Columbus created 500 construction jobs, and 300 retail jobs will be created when it opens its doors.
