This one hurt. The Blue Jackets, in need of a win, jumped on Pittsburgh, with Cam Atkinson scoring 11 seconds into the game. After six minutes, the Jackets led 3-1--but the defending champion Penguins regrouped and eventually won 5-4 in overtime, taking a 3-0 series lead, Jake Guentzel of the Penguins had a hat trick, including the game winning goal in overtime off a feed from behind the net from Sidney Crosby.
"We allowed them to pounce on opportunities and some fluky goals again where they're throwing it from angles and it's going in right now and they're getting bounces," Jackets captain Nick Foligno said. "I liked a lot of the things we did but we didn't limit them enough and they're a dangerous team."
The Jackets will try to regroup and avoid a sweep when they host the Penguins on Friday.
"Sure it's a tough loss, we know the situation we're in," Coach John Tortorella said. "Clear your head, we go to work and you play another game and do the best you can."
