Oddball animal notes

Unlike dogs, cats don't typically get shaved. A mystery has the attention of police in Waynesboro, Virginia as someone has been taking cats and shaving their underbellies or legs. It's happened to seven cats since December. Authorities say all the cats have been returned otherwise unharmed, but some seem bothered. He adds police aren't sure what crimes have been committed, but the owners "would just like it to stop."

Maybe it was looking for Goldilocks? A black bear dropped by a Tennessee hotel and was seen peeking in windows, wandering the halls, and even entering a room that was being cleaned. Gregg Rothburg posted photos to Facebook showing the 150-pound black bear looking in windows Wednesday (April 26th) at the Parkview Inn Hotel in Gatlinburg. He said he chased the bear away from the property. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said bears just waking from hibernation are wandering into unusual areas to map out their surroundings and look for food.

Sitting in traffic is nobody's idea of a good time, and commuters in Maryland can blame a pig for Friday (April 28th) morning traffic. The animal escaped from the back of a truck on the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge at about 8:18 a.m., causing traffic in one lane come to a halt. The Maryland Department of Transportation announced Animal Control was deployed to corral the loose pig and shared a photo of traffic being diverted around the disabled vehicle. After about an hour the area was cleared and traffic was able to resume without delay.
