Sanders to visit Columbus Sunday

Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Senator Bernie Sanders is coming to Columbus this weekend.

The Vermont independent will headline a health care rally Sunday in an effort to convince Ohio Republican Senator Rob Portman to oppose pending health care legislation.

The rally will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Express Live on Neil Avenue.

On his U.S. Senate website, Sanders says, "Our job now is to rally millions of Americans against this disastrous bill to make sure that it does not pass the Senate. Instead of throwing tens of millions of Americans off of health insurance, we must guarantee health care as a right to every American."

In a statement, Portman says, "There are some promising changes to reduce premiums in the individual insurance market, but I continue to have real concerns about the Medicaid policies in this bill, especially those that impact drug treatment at a time when Ohio is facing an opioid epidemic."
