Mental check ordered for man who allegedly stabbed grandson

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- A grandfather from Columbus is accused of stabbing his two-year-old grandson in the head, not once but several times.

Columbus police say it happened just before noon Wednesday on Sierra Ridge Drive in the northeast part of the city.

Officers say the grandfather is in custody and will get a mental health evaluation. 

The child was taken to a hospital where he had surgery and is in critical condition.
