Fatality Reported From Ride Accident At Ohio State Fair

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--At least one person has died as a result of an accident on a ride at the Ohio State Fair.

Columbus Fire and Police have responded to the Ohio Expo Center, with police scanner traffic reporting at least seven others injured, with five critical. Two of the critically injured have been taken to Grant Medical Center, with the others transported to OSU Wexner Medical Center.

Fair officials have not confirmed any information, as of early Wednesday evening. Reports say it happened on the "Fireball" ride.

This comes on the opening day of the 2017 fair, and after officials from the State Department of Agriculture inspected all of the rides at the fairgrounds on Monday.

Governor John Kasich released a statement saying "I am terribly saddened by this accident, by the loss of life and that people were injured enjoying Ohio's fair. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those grieving and injured. I have ordered a full investigation into this accident and have ordered that all fair rides be shut down until additional safety inspections can be completed."
