Columbus officer suspended after remarks at arrest scene

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- A Columbus police officer has been suspended after a body camera catches him making inappropriate comments during an arrest earlier this month.

"What did we tase him for? Why didn't we just choke the ******** life out of him?"

The officer heard on the video was at the scene, but not involved in the arrest.

The remarks came as police took Timothy Davis into custody on outstanding warrants.

Court records indicate Davis fought and bit at officers as they were trying to arrest him.

Davis' family and friends say police used excessive force at the Livingston Market on September 1st.

Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs says the officer "has been relieved of his duty and had his weapon and his badge taken away until we determine if that's the language he uses on the streets."
