Edith Espinal Ordered to be Deported

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A Columbus woman, who took refuge from an immigration order in a church, has been ordered to be deported, and her stay has been denied.

Edith Espinal had a meeting Monday with officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Columbus, who originally granted her a two-week reprieve.

She took refuge at the Columbus Mennonite Church in Clintonville as officials sought to carry out the deportation order.

Following her meeting Monday, Espinal was told she must report back to them next week with a plane ticket to her native Mexico.

Her supporters gathered outside the meeting, holding signs, and asking for her to stay.

Espinal has been in the US for more than 20 years, and she has three children, with one of them born here in the US.
