Serial killer loses bid to avoid death penalty

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVN) -- Cleveland serial killer Anthony Sowell will remain on death row after his latest appeal failed.

The U.S. Supreme Court is refusing to overturn an Ohio Supreme Court ruling that Sowell received a fair trial.

At issue was whether the trial judge was wrong to close a pretrial evidence hearing and reject Sowell's offer to plead guilty.

Sowell was sentenced to die in 2011 for killing eleven women and scattering the remains in and around his home.
