Senator Portman Tours Honda, Talks Taxes

MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WTVN) -- Tax reforms to help the middle class. That's what U.S. Senator Rob Portman, a Terrace Park Republican, said should happen immediately following his tour of the Honda America Manufacturing plant northwest of Marysville Friday.

"From my point of view, this is not about helping the wealthy. They're doing fine," Portman said.

Portman commented on the Honda plant, describing a $220-million commitment to the new Honda line, the new Accord. "I hope it's going to sell like hotcakes, because it's made right here, in Marysville, Ohio," the Senator added.

Portman says reforming taxes is an opportunity to get economic growth and provide tax relief to the middle class. "It is about helping our small businesses, and it is about helping to ensure that we can be competitive so that we can create more jobs and have higher wages. And it is about helping the middle class when the middle class squeeze is very real," he said.
