COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Crew SC has backtracked on a move to not allow refunds for season ticket holders for 2018.
The team announced Wednesday that they will now accept refunds for the packages through the close of business on Friday, November 3rd.
Initially, Crew SC Owner Anthony Precourt denied refunds for those that had already purchased season tickets, prior to the news that the team may be moving to Austin, Texas after the 2018 season.
In a statement Wednesday, Precourt says, "I understand that the recent announcement on October 17th and subsequent media coverage surrounding the Club have created a difficult period for those who have passionately supported Crew SC. I also understand that the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Club is of concern to our loyal Season Ticket Members who have pledged support for the Club year-in and year-out. No final decisions have been made about the future of this Club and Crew SC will play at MAPFRE Stadium in 2018.”
Thousands turned out for a "Save the Crew" rally at Columbus City Hall on Sunday. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther also announced that Precourt, and MLS Commissioner Don Garber, agreed to meet with him in the coming weeks regarding the team's future in Columbus.
