Plans for possible soccer stadium downtown unveiled

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- There's at least one idea on the table for a new soccer-only stadium that could keep the Crew from leaving Columbus.

Columbus Foundation CEO Doug Kridler says his proposal calls for a downtown stadium on land currently owned by Abbott Laboratories between North Fifth and North Sixth Streets.

Kridler says the foundation would would work with the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation to purchase a six-month option on the property.

It is the first plan for a stadium to keep the Columbus Crew SC in town past next season.

Crew owner Anthony Precourt has expressed an interest in moving the team to Austin, Texas if Columbus doesn't build a stadium downtown.
