OSU Issues Safety Alert for Undercover Police Impersonator

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio State University has issued a public safety alert, after a student had a run-in with someone claiming to be an undercover police officer.

Officials say it happened early Friday morning, when a female student was approached by a man near High Street and Woodruff Avenue. The man claimed to be an undercover police officer and walked her home.

He followed her inside her residence hall, and left when she checked in at the front desk. The individual did not make physical contact with the victim, or show any police credentials.

OSU Police began investigating, and was not able to identify the individual to confirm he was in fact a police officer.

Officials are sharing the information as a precaution, and are asking for info on identifying the individual.
