Celebration of Earle Bruce's life planned for Wednesday

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- A celebration to honor the life of Coach Earle Bruce will be held at 10:30 Wednesday morning at St. John Arena.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony that will feature speakers like Urban Meyer, Jim Tressel, 610 WTVN Sports Director Matt McCoy, coach Bruce’s grandson Zach Smith, and current assistant coach Tony Alford, who played for Bruce at Colorado State.

Music is also planned by students from the Ohio State Marching and Athletic Bands. 

Ohio State All-American William White, who played for Bruce, will deliver the invocation.

Parking is free in the North St. John Arena lots and the North Riverbank lot.

The Bruce family will receive friends between 4 and 8 p.m. at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel at 6699 North High Street in Columbus.

Services and burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for family, close friends, former players and coaches.

Ohio State asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Earle and Jean Bruce Alzheimer’s Research Fund in Neurology, Fund #312531, Care of The Ohio State University Foundation, Attn. Gift Processing, 1480 West Lane Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43221.
