Former president hints that Trump is a "demagogue"

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WTVN) -- Former President Barack Obama appears to be suggesting that President Trump is a demagogue.

Obama spoke Thursday night at a campaign rally in Cleveland for Richard Cordray, the state's Democratic candidate for governor.

At the packed event, Obama didn't mention President Trump by name, but blasted "Demagogues who promise simple fixes to complicated problems," and led the crowd in a chant of "Vote, vote, vote."

Obama suggested that Trump was threatening basic democratic institutions, and said, "None of this normal."

The former president also criticized Republicans in Congress, and said instead of providing a check and balance on Trump's behavior, they're bending over backwards to be a shield.
