Ohio House Bill 95 Takes Effect

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles is reminding drivers that House Bill 95 takes effect on Monday.

The law enhances the punishment threshold for enforcing distracted driving in relation to moving violations. It also allows law enforcement to add distracted driving to a moving violation, regardless of proof.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety was also tasked with developing a distracted driver course for those who plead guilty or are convicted of a specific traffic violation while distracted.

That course can be taken in lieu of paying an enhanced court fine of $100 or less.

The distracted driving violations could apply to things like operating a vehicle outside marked lanes, violations involving a red light, stop sign, or speeding.
