BUCKEYE LAKE, Ohio (24-7 News)--The reconstructed dam at Buckeye Lake is now finished, after Governor John Kasich presided over a dedication ceremony Thursday.
Kasich praised the efforts made to address the 200-year-old earthen dam's issues, which the Army Corps of Engineers warned was in danger of a catastrophic failure.
The governor and the state quickly approved 150-million dollars to fix the dam, with construction estimates saying it would take at least five-years.
Thursday's ceremony noted the project was completed two-years early and 40-million dollars under budget.
The ongoing project also prompted the water levels on the lake to be lowered for several years, which limited the use of motorized boats on the lake, ultimately affecting local businesses.
