COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio State University is in the process of draining Mirror Lake, ahead of the match-up on the football field with "that team up north".
The university recently spent millions of dollars renovating the area, saying it was to return the lake to a more natural state. Those renovations were completed this past summer.
The improvements also allow the lake to be drained within a matter of hours.
It's also to prevent the infamous "Mirror Lake Jump" from being revived. The unsanctioned event brought students to jump into the lake ahead of the OSU-Michigan football game, but the death of a student in 2015 during the event prompted changes.
The university says even entering the empty basin of the lake constitutes Criminal Trespassing.
