Nationwide Confirms Thousands of layoffs, including 350 in Central Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (24-7 News)--Columbus based Nationwide Insurance is confirming it will be eliminating around eleven-hundred jobs next year including some 350 in Central Ohio.  

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, the company said it was making targeted changes to its marketing, P & C operations, bank organizations and I.T. Department.  

Nationwide currently employees nearly 34-thousand employees and said this workforce reduction is expected to happen in the first quarter of next year.  

The company was founded in the 1920's as the Farm Bureau Mutual Automobile Insurance Company before changing its name to Nationwide in 1955.
