Former CPD Spokesman Sentenced for Child Pornography

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A former Columbus Police Sergeant, who also served as the department's Pubic Information Officer, will spend 90 days in jail for possessing child pornography.

Dean Worthington was sentenced in Franklin County Court, after pleading guilty to four counts related to the material that was found in his electronic devices.

Worthington will also have to register as a Tier-II sex offender, pay a fine, and be placed on probation upon his release.

He could have received up to nine years in prison, but Judge Mark Serrot was compelled by law to consider Worthington was a risk to commit another crime. Based on his record, Serrot determined he was not likely to re-offend.

Worthington, who served on the force for 20 years before he was named as the PIO for Columbus Police in 2017, apologized in court saying there's no excuse for what he did.
