Columbus Mayor Names Interim Police Chief

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther has named an interim Police Chief for the Columbus Division of Police.

Once Kim Jacobs retires on February 8th, Deputy Chief Thomas Quinlan will lead the department, while the search continues for a new permanent chief.

Jacobs indicated she has compete faith in Quinlan leading the department into the future.

Ginther has indicated that the search for a permanent Chief will be nationwide, saying he wants a "change agent" to lead the department.

In recent years, the department has implemented the use of body cams, and participated in community outreach programs to reduce crime, with homicides reaching an all-time high in 2017.
