Memorial Service Marks One Year Since Westerville PD Deaths

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (24-7 News)--Westerville Police and residents marked the first anniversary of two officers who shot and killed in the line of duty.

A memorial service was held Sunday for officers Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering at Grace Chapel Community Church.

Morelli and Joering were killed responding to a domestic disturbance call on February 10th, 2018 when they were shot through the door by Quentin Smith, who is currently awaiting trial for murder.

Westerville Police Chaplin Jim Meacham presided over the service which he organized to celebrate the fallen officer's lives.

The police department adhered to the request from the officers' families to not have a public memorial service on the 1st anniversary of their deaths.
