Mt. Carmel to Keep Medicare Assistance

COLUMBUS, Ohio (24-7 News)--Hospital officials are saying the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are approving Mount Carmel's plan of correction for both Mount Carmel West and St. Ann's Hospitals.

According to Tuesday's release, as part of the agreement, the Ohio Department of Health will conduct follow up inspections to make sure the plan is followed.

Mount Carmel Health Systems became under threat of losing Medicare assistance during investigations into a series of wrongful overdose deaths prescribed by a former staff physician.

Currently, there are at least 28 patients who died at the hospital linked to Dr. William Husel who was suspended from practicing medicine last month.
