"Thundersnow" Caught on Camera in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A strange and rare meteorological phenomena was observed early Wednesday morning across central Ohio.

Callers to 610-WTVN's Joel Riley Show reported seeing and hearing "thunder snow", which only occurs during heavy snowfall.

The Ohio Department of Transportation also caught at least two instances of thunder snow on their traffic cameras, including one along I-270 near Roberts Road, on Columbus's west side. That occurred just before 6AM.

More reports came in to the National Weather Service of thunder snow along I-70 in the Dayton area, and between Marysville and Delaware.

The precipitation eventually changed over to just rain late Wednesday morning.
