"Shot Spotter" Catches First Suspect

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The newly installed Shot Spotter technology in the Hilltop has caught its first suspect.

Columbus Police say Shot Spotter alerted the authorities when one of three people fired a gun while walking through an alleyway in the west Columbus neighborhood.

It was picked up along South Harris Avenue Monday afternoon, and officers obtained surveillance video from a neighbor to catch the culprits on camera.

Police say they received no calls from neighbors about the gunfire, but Shot Spotter alerted the police to the time and area where the incident took place.

The technology has only been in place for three weeks and is expected to be installed in the Linden and south Columbus neighborhoods.
