ShotSpotter Now Online in the Linden Area

COLUMBUS, Ohio (24-7 News)--New anti-crime technology is now operational in the Linden neighborhood.

ShotSpotter uses a series of microphones which act as electronic ears in the sky to detect gunfire and then pinpoint its location for police responses. Police are also automatically notified of the activity.

Last year City Council approved almost 700-thousand dollars to purchase the devices to use in Linden, the Hilltop, and Columbus' south side.

ShotSpotter has been used successfully now for several weeks in the Hilltop. It's first utilization came last month.

Police say even with the new technology, residents who hear any gunshot should still call 9-1-1 and report it.
