COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--As the team gets ready for the return of Arena Football to Nationwide Arena, The Columbus Destroyers are now looking for someone to serve as the team's mascot.
Team officials say "Captain Destroyer" is a female humanized mascot, designed to be "a watchful protector of Destroyers nation who embodies the spirit of the team and the Columbus fan base."
The call for worthy participants says, "The organization seeks a strong, athletic, passionate, and outgoing woman to fill the role of Captain Destroyer. Even though the successful candidate will physically resemble warrior and super hero-like qualities, Captain Destroyer will still possess the family-friendly and approachable attributes that fall in line with the core values of the Destroyers organization."
It adds, "Captain Destroyer will be present for all the team’s home games at Nationwide Arena and in addition to those duties and responsibilities, will also attend community events, media appearances, and any other initiatives related to the Destroyers organization."
Tryouts for the position are set for March 30th at the Bo Jackson Elite Sports Complex.
The team begins the 2019 AFL season April 27th. The home opener is May 18th.
