Five Children Hospitalized, One Dies, in Cleveland Ave. Crash

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Five children were taken to the hospital, and one child died, as a result of a crash on Columbus's northeast side late Saturday afternoon.

Columbus Police say an SUV was going at a high rate of speed in the left lane of Cleveland Avenue northbound, near 12th Avenue, at around 5:30PM, when it lost control while veering into the right lane.

The vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole, and a vehicle stopped along 12th avenue, before coming to rest on its top.

At least one occupant of the vehicle was partially ejected. Five children were taken to nationwide Children's Hospital, with one of them in critical condition.

A 7-year-old girl was pronounced dead. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
