City Hires Consultant to Assist in Police Chief Search

COLUMBUS, Ohio (24-7 News)--The City of Columbus is hiring a former employee, with experience at some of Columbus' largest institutions, to aid in their search for a new chief of police.

City Council voted Monday to approve a contract with the Saunders Company, run by Gayle Saunders, a former Columbus Department of Public Safety Director, and her husband.

Saunders has also held positions with Nationwide, Ohio State, and Columbus City Schools and will now work on outreach events with the community to prepare a report for a candidate profile to send to the council.

Officials hope to have a new chief in place by early next year.

Kim Jacobs retired from the Post in Febaruary. Thomas Quinlan is currently serving as Interim Police Chief.
