New Legal Action Against OSU Over Dr. Strauss Report

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A new lawsuit has been filed against The Ohio State University, regarding the report of sexual abuse carried out by a former athletics Physician for decades.

The legal action comes from 37 former student-athletes, including former football players, over the report that Dr. Richard Strauss sexually abused nearly 200 students from 1979 to 1997. Dr. Strauss died in 2005.

The suit claims university administrators knew about the abuse, but failed to take meaningful action to stop it.

The university brought in an independent investigator to examine claims that came to light in April 2018. They conducted interviews with about 500 witnesses and examined university documents before releasing the report earlier this month.

The university is in mediation with three other groups of defendants to come to a settment over the alleged abuse as well. Even Governor Mike DeWine called for the end of the statute of limitations on rape and sexual assault, following the release of the report.
