BEXLEY, Ohio (24-7 News)--The use of cell phones, smart watches, and other personal electronic devices inside Bexley City School District classrooms will be prohibited, beginning next school year.

Bexley school superintendent Dr. Kimberly Pietsch Miller announced the new policy Monday, saying students may have phones on them, but they will need to be powered down during class.

Officials said they understand the phones are used by parents to check in on their students, and they conducted a study and consulted with experts before deciding on the ban.

Students will still be allowed to use the devices before and after school.
