Dr. William Husel Facing 25 Murder Counts For Overdose Deaths

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a 25-count indictment for murder against former Mt. Carmel West Doctor William Husel.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien announcing the indictment Wednesday, with Dr. Husel's arraignment set for Wednesday afternoon.

Dr. Husel turned himself in at Columbus Police Headquarters Wednesday morning.

The prosecutor worked with the Columbus Police Homicide Unit to look over medical records involving the deaths, which date back to 2015.

Among the overdoses are prescriptions for fentanyl, and some amounts were 10-times the recommended dosage for a person.

Mt. Carmel acknowledged the activity in late 2018, and immediately fired Dr. Husel. Action is still pending regarding the removal of Dr. Husel's medical license by the state.

Each count against Dr. Husel carries a possible sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
