Local Activist's Death Ruled Suicide

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Franklin County Coroner has listed the cause of death for a local activist as a suicide.

28-year-old Amber Evans was last seen near the Scioto River in downtown Columbus in late January, with her vehicle found near the Scioto Mile.

Crews spent weeks searching the river for her body, which was eventually recovered in March.

The coroner's report noted that the cause of death was drowning, but she also had drugs in her system that were used to fight the common cold.

Investigators believe she had a fight with her boyfriend, leading up to her suicide.

Evans was active in several social justice organizations, like "Showing up for Racial Justice."
