COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A new "ticket tax" in the City of Columbus is now in effect.
The move approved by Columbus City Council earlier this year adds a 5-percent surcharge to tickets to sporting events, concerts, and movies in the city.
Museums and college athletics are exempt from the tax.
The money will go to fund local arts programs, and the ongoing maintenance of Nationwide Arena.
Opponents are continuing to fight the increase, saying they want to put it to a vote of the people.
The group "Ohioans for responsible taxation" has gathered enough valid signatures to put the issue before voters in November.
