23 Employees Fired, CEO to Step Down at Mt. Carmel Health System

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--23 employees of Mt. Carmel Health System have been fired, and the CEO has resigned, amid the hospital's review of the cases involving now-former Mt. Carmel Dr. William Husel.

In a video statement released Thursday, CEO Ed Lamb says the internal review of Dr. Husel's activities concluded that 35 patients were affected by overdoses of prescription medications, including fentanyl.

The employees affected by the firings Thursday included physicians, doctors, nurses, and pharmacy management staff.

Lamb added that 11 staff members will have the opportunity to return, pending additional training and education.

Following the firings, Lamb announced his resignation, effective July 25th. He will stay on and assist the new CEO in the transition.

Dr. Husel is facing 25 murder counts for his activity while working at Mt. Carmel West from 2015 to 2018.
