Excessive Heat Warning for Central Ohio Friday, Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Meteorologists and emergency management officials are sending out the warnings about the dangerous heat and humidity that's forecast for the area through the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for central Ohio, beginning Friday afternoon, and lasting through Saturday evening. High temperatures are set to be in the mid to upper-90's those days, and factoring in the humidity, it will feel like it's between 100 and 105.

Officials say heat stroke can set in quickly in those conditions, in as little as 15 minutes, and residents are urged to check on their elderly neighbors to make sure they are cool enough as well.

The elderly and the very young are especially susceptible in the conditions.

Across central Ohio, all 13 YMCA locations will be open to serve as cooling centers, the public pools across the city of Columbus will open at 1:30PM each day, with admission just $1, and the city's three "spraygrounds" open at Noon each day.
