Firefighter, Home Occupant Injured in East-Side Fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A Columbus firefighter, and the occupant of a home, were both injured in a house fire on the city's east side Monday afternoon.

Fire units responded to the home along Genoa Place around 6PM. A neighbor, identified as LJ Smith, also sprung into action.

Smith tells ABC-6 he helped pull the victim out of the home, who was also on fire. Smith says he began to throw dirt and grass on him to help put out the flames.

That occupant was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in critical condition. A firefighter was also taken to grant Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

So far, there's been no word on what started the fire, but investigators have not ruled out arson.
