Death Penalty Recommended for Convicted Killer

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A Franklin County jury has recommended the death penalty for a convicted killer, for the first time since 2012.

The recommendation came Wednesday for 26-year-old Kristofer Garrett, who was convicted last week for the murders of his ex-girlfriend, 34-year-old Nicole Duckson, and their four-year-old daughter, Christina, outside a home on Columbus's southeast side in January 2018.

Specifically, the jury recommended the death penalty for Christina's murder, and life in prison without the possibility of parole for Nicole's murder.

The final sentencing date has not yet been set, with the court still going through a review of the facts before officially handing down the sentence.

The last time a jury recommended the death penalty was for Caron Montgomery, who was convicted of killing his girlfriend, their two-year-old son, and her 10-year-old daughter in 2012.
