Settlements Reached With Families of Two Mt. Carmel Overdose Victims

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A tentative settlement has been reached in the wrongful death lawsuits of two families, whose loved ones allegedly died of overdoses administered by Dr. William Husel at Mt. Carmel Health System.

The settlements, which need to be finalized by a judge, go to the families of Donald McClung and Rebecca Walls, for nearly $9-million combined.

It is the largest set of settlements reached so far involving the deaths surrounding Dr. Husel, who is accused of administering fatal doses of opioids from 2015 to 2018.

Many of the overdose deaths involved fentanyl. Dr. Husel was fired in late-2018.

The Franklin County Prosecutor opened a criminal investigation against Dr. Husel, and a grand jury filed 25 counts of murder against him, with his trial still pending.
