Ohio State Univ. Raising Minimum Wage to $15 an Hour

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio University will raise its minimum wage to 15-dollars an hour.

The announcement Friday from University President Dr. Michael Drake directly affects about 3,800 workers, both at the university and at Wexner Medical Center.

An additional 1,000 employees currently making $15 an hour will have their wages increased to $16 an hour.

Dr. Drake said, "This effort is in keeping with a competitive marketplace and — as the state’s fourth-largest employer — the university’s commitment to invest in individuals and families throughout our Buckeye community,” Drake said. “Our greatest strength is our people.”

The initiative will be implemented with the university's annual merit compensation process in 2020.

A recent study, conducted by the university, says Ohio State directly or indirectly supports more than 123,000 jobs across Ohio, amounting to one in every 57 jobs across the state.
