Matthew Cordle Granted Early Release From Prison

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A judge in Franklin County granted Matthew Cordle an early release from prison on Wednesday.

Cordle was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for causing a wrong-way crash on I-670, while driving drunk, in 2013. The crash killed Vincent Canzani.

Cordle's case went viral, when he confessed to the incident in a Youtube video, that garnered millions of views.

Cordle and his attorneys argued he had made progress while behind bars, including getting an education, and lining up a job once he is released.

Prosecutors had argued that Cordle vowed to serve out his prison term when he was originally sentenced.

The judge's decision Wednesday vacates the final five months of Cordle's sentence, in favor of three years of probation.

Cordle's lifetime driver's license suspension is still in effect.
