Standoff Shuts Down Highway Interchange

WORTHINGTON, Ohio (WTVN)--A car stopped on a ramp in one of Columbus's busiest highway interchanges prompted the highways to shut down Tuesday afternoon.

Worthington Police say the incident started just before noon when the car stopped on the ramp from State Route 315 South to I-270 East.

The man was originally reported to be carrying a rifle, with The State Highway Patrol, Columbus Police, and officers from Sharon Township and Perry Township also responding.

Police closed down State Route 315 and I-270 in both directions as the standoff continued. SWAT teams were called in, and brought the situation to a peaceful end after about an hour and a half.

The weapon turned out to be an air rifle. The man was found to be in possession of a knife.

The man was taken to OSU Wexner Medical Center for evaluation.
