Recognizance Bond For Youth Football Coach, Charged with Assault

NEWARK, Ohio (WTVN)-- A youth football coach in Licking County entered a not guilty plea Monday to a charge of assault, for hitting a referee during a game on Sunday.

Licking County Sheriff''s deputies arrested 37-year-old Christopher Deason for the incident that involved players and coaches from the Licking Valley and Watkins Memorial areas.

The official involved was not hurt. The players are in the 5th grade.

Deason was released on his own recognizance.

Deason is also accused of hitting another parent in the aftermath of that incident. Sheriff's deputies continue to investigate video taken from that day.

The judge in Licking County ordered Deason to not coach in any more game, but is allowed to attend them.
