Search Warrant Executed on Home Near Canal Winchester, Over Exotic Cat

CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio (WTVN)--Investigators with the Ohio Department of Agriculture executed a search warrant Wednesday at the home of Stacy Elliott, father of former Ohio State Running Back Ezekiel Elliott, after an exotic cat was shot dead by law enforcement officers in the area over the weekend.

The serval cat, native to Africa, was killed after it attacked a dog near the Jefferson Farms neighborhood in Canal Winchester, and the cat made an aggressive move toward a Fairfield County Sheriff's Deputy.

Officials believed the cat may have escaped from Elliott's property, and there may have been more exotic animals being held there.

Investigators only took pictures of the property in the search warrant, and did not confiscate any animals or other property on Wednesday.

Ohio lawmakers put tighter restrictions on ownership of exotic animals after the incident near Zanesville in 2011, where dozens of apes, tigers, lions, and other large cats were shot dead after their owner released them and committed suicide.
