Longaberger Basket Building to Become Luxury Hotel

NEWARK, Ohio (WTVN)--A landmark in central Ohio, that's been vacant for years, will be refurbished and opened as a luxury hotel.

Developers and dignitaries gathered Monday to announce the plans for the Longaberger Basket building in Newark.

Ceres Enterprises and Coon Restorations are collaborating on the project, with the hope of opening the revamped facility by 2021.

The building has been vacant since 2016, and has changed hands several times since then. It is seven stories tall, and 180-thousand square feet.

Plans for the hotel also include a restaurant and an indoor pool.

The building served as the headquarters for the Longaberger Basket company for decades. The company shut down last year.
